Glee star Lea Michele is the latest victim of Twitter hacking. Photo: Mario AnzuoniChris Colfer sacked, now Lea Michele pregnant? What has the Twitterverse got against Glee?
Michele, who plays Rachel Berry in the US musical drama series, had her Twitter account hacked on the weekend.
“Before this gets out to the media, I would like to announce to my fans that I am pregnant #BabyBoy,” a tweet published by her account said.
But the actress has confirmed the tweet was false – she is not pregnant. “I was hacked!” she later tweeted.
The hacking of Michele’s account follows the hacking of her co-star Chris Colfer’s Twitter account last week.
“Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of Glee,” a tweet published on Colfer’s account said. “Explanations will come shortly.”
But Colfer’s Twitter account was also hacked and 20th Century Fox confirmed he is still employed.
“We’ve been alerted that Chris Colfer’s twitter account has been hacked,” 20th Century Fox said in a statement.
“Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.”
The hacking of two Glee cast-member’s Twitter accounts in quick succession suggests they may have been hacked by the same person.
Both accounts were verified, which means Twitter acknowledges their authenticity with a “blue tick”.
No other Glee cast-members have been affected.
Glee will return to the US schedule in the “mid-season” – around January, 2015 – for its final season.
