TRAFFIC was diverted around an accident near Rosedale for more than two hours on Thursday night following a head-on collision which trapped a man in his vehicle.
Police said the two car collision happened about 9pm about 500 metres west of Cricket St on the Princes Highway on a straight section of road.
A Morwell man heading to Sale sustained serious leg injuries and was trapped in the vehicle for about 45 minutes as SES personnel fought to free him.
A female driver from Traralgon travelling in the opposite direction sustained injuries associated with her seat belt, and police said the deployment of an airbag saved her from more serious injuries.
Both were taken by ambulance to Latrobe Regional Hospital.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and are looking at factors including speed, fatigue, alcohol and driver distraction.
The collision tied up considerable resources, including police and paramedics from the Wellington and Latrobe policing areas, Rosedale and Morwell SES units and Rosedale CFA.
