Police are searching for Andrew Darling.Security bracelets ‘lose signal’
Rural landowners in the Ararat area have been urged to check sheds and other buildings on their properties following the escape of a convicted child rapist from a correctional facility in Victoria’s west.
Andrew Darling, 42, went missing from Corella Place about 2.30am on Sunday after cutting his electronic surveillance bracelet and walking off the premises.
Police spokeswoman Leonie Johnson said landowners should ‘‘remain vigilant’’ on their properties and report anything suspicious to authorities. Residents of Ararat and surrounds have also been urged to report stolen food or clothing.
Darling was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
In 2009, he sparked a police hunt after breaking his parole conditions. He was arrested almost two weeks later in Brisbane.
Darling is described as Caucasian, about 176 centimetres tall with a medium build, blue eyes, fair, close-cropped hair and a fair complexion.
He has both ears pierced and tattoos on his right lower leg, back and arms.
He is known to frequent licensed venues and commonly wears camouflage clothing.
Members of the public are urged not to approach him and to phone 000 if he is seen.
