Mayor Stuart Freudenstein, along with Young Preschool president Sheree Mason, officially opened the preschool’s new carpark and shed on Wednesday, June 25.
The new staff carpark and shed adjacent to the preschool were built on council land and provide much needed facilities for the preschool.
Cr Freudenstein believes the new carpark was an improvement to the preschool and now finally finished will increase safety for the children with fewer cars on the street and more drop off parking for parents.
Director of Young Preschool, Angie Milne also thinks the new staff carpark is a beneficial addition.
“With the increase in street parking available for parent pick up and drop off, the carpark has made Brock Street a lot safer for children, families, staff and residents,” Angie said.
The shed is a multi-purpose building used both by Young Mobile Play Activities (YMPA) and the preschool.
YMPA is an educational playgroup run under the management of the preschool. It provides valuable play environments as well as a network for parents in Young and its surrounding communities.
The carpark and shed were built through the support of the council, current funding and through fundraising activities conducted by the preschool and YMPA.
Young Preschool, as a not-for-profit organisation, continues to improve the learning experiences of its young students through fundraising to upgrade its facilities.
“This year we are raising funds towards the purchase of digital learning board and to recreate the front garden of our preschool into a learning garden,” Sheree said.
Young Preschool’s major fundraising event for the year is a Race Night on Saturday, September 6 at the Young Golf Club.
“An evening of fun, excitement and frivolity is guaranteed when we hold out fictitious Race Night. Tickets are only $30. You will get your play betting money and cocktail food,” said Sheree.
The evening starts at 6pm and features an eight race program of six horse races, a dog race and a pig race.
A “Fashions on the Field” competition will also be held on the night as well as a raffle.
Sheree said everyone is invited to get dressed up and come along to a kid-free night of excitement to raise money for your local preschool.
The preschool is still looking for prizes for its Race Night raffle, so if you would like to donate goods or services please call the office.
